Our strength is found in our actions. Since 2018, we have partnered with several community resource agencies and local churches to build stronger communities. It is our belief that we are more efficient when we work together to overcome challenges. This collective mission is why we launched Ahava Outreach, where we strive to bring positive, lasting change to everyone we serve.

We proudly support this through Beyond Scripted, our new workforce readiness program designed to cultivate professional customer service skills and strong character building for career success.
Community Outreach
Empowering Our Neighbors
Ahava Outreach is dedicated to putting our community first by providing vital services for families and individuals in urgent need. We provide compassionate, targeted aid to our senior living communities, support families overcoming domestic violence and addiction, as well as those facing critical illness through our Wellness Wednesday initiatives. Additionally we combat local food insecurity through our hot meals program, summer-camp meal program and food distribution. Join our efforts today.
Education
Helping Those Who Need Us Most
The Ahava Outreach Education program offers vital mentoring and tutoring support, specifically focusing on core subjects like math, reading and spelling. Jabez Academy is our summer program promoting learning and fun in a structured environment. Recently featured on our area Chamber of Commerce Member Spotlight, Jabez Academy is recognized for its incredible local impact. We have been in operation since the summer of 2023 and have seen the overwhelming growth in enrollment as well as a positive impact on our youth, we even teach cursive writing since it is no longer taught in our public schools. From Vision to Reality: The story of Ahava Outreach
A Message from Our Founder
" Ahava" means love, and this organization was born out of a deep desire to put that love into active motion for our neighbors. When I looked at our community, I saw incredible potential. Initially, this outreach began with the "Love Thine Own Self" empowering movement. We brought together those who survived domestic violence, overcame abuse and beat addictions, creating a safe platform to encourage, inspire and uplift one another, as well as those finding themselves in those situations.
This platform was deeply personal for me. At it's start, I was involved in a very toxic, and emotionally abusive relationship. I had firsthand knowledge of how addiction impacts families and I also identified with the trauma of incest and molestation. I realized that many individuals remained trapped in these cycles because our local area lacked safe spaces to discuss root causes; instead, it, simply prescribed remedies to the conditions. One evening, after speaking with a family member and hearing her story, I asked her why she stayed. That question echoed in my mind until I asked it of myself. It was then, I realized that if communities embraced survivors without judgement, we could then break cycles of abuse and addiction early on.
As we lifted each other up, our vision naturally expanded, leading to our evolution into youth enrichment and education programs. to further advocate for children and families, several of our staff members have even joined The NC Guardian Ad Litem program.
What started as a small, passionate circle of healing has grown into a powerful network of care. Today our Giving Hope program continues this legacy, fostering a continuation of love and support for both our young and the elderly.
Meet the Director
Grounded in Family, Leadership, and Faith
Married to my love, Mr. Ira Downey, we have six children between, two daughers-in-love and a future son-in-love, 4 grandchildren, 1 beautiful foster daughter who has given us an additional 3 grandbabies. I love family! My husband and I both come from large families. I grew up on the premise "it takes a village" and yes it truly does. I believe in, family, I believe in community, I believe in support and I believe in the scripture 1 Corinthians 16:14 Do everything in love. I am an intentional person. my presence is intentional as well as my absence, meaning I can not just go along with everything. I believe in serving, and treating my neighbors right, I believe in feeding the hungry and clothing the naked in the physical, emotional and spiritual. I am a natural born leader and being the eldest of four girls has nothing to do with it, ok maybe a little lol. If there is a need I will jump in to help fulfill. I am a peacemaker, I do not like conflicts or misunderstandings, communication is always key. I like to be silly and can very well be serious. I am a writer, Ive written two books, and a poetry journal. I write songs and have a recorded a gospel album with my Mother and sisters. we travel and sing. I Loooove family get togethers and outings.
